My name is David Poe, and it has been my privilege to be the pastor of Lafe Baptist Church since February 1997.  Since my arrival at LBC, we have seen many exciting changes here in the last 19 years;  from adding an associate pastor,  a children’s church pastor, multimedia to our worship services, and presently sharing the good news via Facebook and LBC website (

  • I was born on June 9, 1952 in Marmaduke, AR and raised on a farm four miles east of there with my mom, dad, and two brothers.
  • I graduated from Marmaduke High School on May 8, 1970.
  • The next two years were spent at Southern (Williams) Baptist College.  It was there that I met my lovely bride, Nancy.
  • Nancy and I were married on August 25, 1972, and since that time, God has blessed us with two children and four blessed grandchildren.
  • Our son, Brad and his wife Amanda live in Collierville TN, and our daughter Shaniece and her husband Anthony reside in Paragould, AR.
  • They each have a boy and girl.

You know I can never remember a time when my family did not go to church.  I spent my childhood and teen years growing up in a rural church setting.  Many of those saints that crossed my path in my early years made a positive impact on my life that has lasted well into my adulthood.  I look back upon those times and cherish them greatly.

It was at the age of 6 that God began to deal with my heart.  I made the move to go forward in a revival meeting in 1958 and was later baptized in one of the ditches that ran thru our community.  Twelve years later at the age of 18 and confused I answered what I thought to be a call to the ministry.  Shortly after getting married I became the children’s church pastor at Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church.  A year later (1973) Nutt’s Chapel Baptist Church extended their call to be their pastor. I have served from that position in several churches in northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri both full time and bi-vocational for the past 43 years.   But it was my time as pastor of Number Nine Baptist Church outside of Blytheville, AR where my life really changed.

There on April 13, 1980, I accepted the fact that I was lost and need to be saved.  From my very own pulpit I asked the Lord to come into my heart and save me that Sunday evening ,and when given the opportunity, I share the events that led up to that day.  Since that time I have carried out what God has wanted me to do and that is simply to make myself available to serve him.  From that time until present I have done just that, serving from the role of pastor.  This may change tomorrow. It may not.  One thing will not change and that is I will still be available to serve Him in ministry no matter what capacity.

If you need a place to worship, I encourage you to come and worship with us at LBC.  Our church may not be for everyone, but God has a place for you somewhere.  It just might be right here with us at LBC! I look forward to seeing you.
