My name is David Poe, and it has been my privilege to be the pastor of Lafe Baptist Church since February 1997.  Since my arrival at LBC, we have seen many exciting changes here in the last 19 years;  from adding an associate pastor,  a children’s church pastor, multimedia to our worship services, and presently sharing the good news via Facebook and LBC website (

  • I was born on June 9, 1952 in Marmaduke, AR and raised on a farm four miles east of there with my mom, dad, and two brothers.
  • I graduated from Marmaduke High School on May 8, 1970.
  • The next two years were spent at Southern (Williams) Baptist College.  It was there that I met my lovely bride, Nancy.
  • Nancy and I were married on August 25, 1972, and since that time, God has blessed us with two children and four blessed grandchildren.
  • Our son, Brad and his wife Amanda live in Collierville TN, and our daughter Shaniece and her husband Anthony reside in Paragould, AR.
  • They each have a boy and girl.

You know I can never remember a time when my family did not go to church.  I spent my childhood and teen years growing up in a rural church setting.  Many of those saints that crossed my path in my early years made a positive impact on my life that has lasted well into my adulthood.  I look back upon those times and cherish them greatly.

It was at the age of 6 that God began to deal with my heart.  I made the move to go forward in a revival meeting in 1958 and was later baptized in one of the ditches that ran thru our community.  Twelve years later at the age of 18 and confused I answered what I thought to be a call to the ministry.  Shortly after getting married I became the children’s church pastor at Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church.  A year later (1973) Nutt’s Chapel Baptist Church extended their call to be their pastor. I have served from that position in several churches in northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri both full time and bi-vocational for the past 43 years.   But it was my time as pastor of Number Nine Baptist Church outside of Blytheville, AR where my life really changed.

There on April 13, 1980, I accepted the fact that I was lost and need to be saved.  From my very own pulpit I asked the Lord to come into my heart and save me that Sunday evening ,and when given the opportunity, I share the events that led up to that day.  Since that time I have carried out what God has wanted me to do and that is simply to make myself available to serve him.  From that time until present I have done just that, serving from the role of pastor.  This may change tomorrow. It may not.  One thing will not change and that is I will still be available to serve Him in ministry no matter what capacity.

If you need a place to worship, I encourage you to come and worship with us at LBC.  Our church may not be for everyone, but God has a place for you somewhere.  It just might be right here with us at LBC! I look forward to seeing you.

Associate Pastor

Bill Muse

I was born on December 15th, 1966 in Kennett, MO. I was saved on July 6, 1976 and was baptized the following Sunday at Southside Baptist Church in Kennett, MO.

I surrendered to the ministry in April of 1985 and began working with youth and preaching on the street corner in Hornersville, MO. I took my first pastorate position at Caruth Baptist Church while attending William (Southern) Baptist College in the winter of 1986.

I married Lisa Emerson on April 30th 2000 and we quickly began a life together that has spanded from Memphis, to McGehee, to Marmaduke. We have three wonderful children.  Haley is 22 (and married to Alex Edwards), Hannah is 18 (and betrothed to Kenny Hall III), and Ty is 15.

My wife and I are both graduates of Senath-Hornersville High School. I have studied bible courses at both Southern Baptist College and Mid-America Baptist Bible College.

I graduated from Arkansas State University in 2002 with a bachelors degree in Mid-Level education, in 2003 with a Master's in Special Education, in 2006 with Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership, in 2008 with a Master' in Gifted Education.

I am currently the High School Principal (grades 7-12) in Marmaduke, where I was once the Police Chief for several years.

I accepted the position of associate pastor at Lafe Baptist Church in September of 2006.

My favorite bible verse is II Corinthians 4:5

"For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake."

I am still a child at heart and though the song "Sinner Saved By Grace" has always spoken to my mind as the best example of myself, I still believe that God does not save us to simply be sinners saved by grace. He calls us to be a Child of the KING!

He tells us that if we believe, if we follow, if we trust, we can have Victory in Jesus!

Children's Pastor

Mike Cook

I was born on April 15th, 1981 in Paragould, AR. I was born again at church camp in 1991 just outside of Fredericktown, MO and followed with Believer's Baptism that same summer.

I married my high school sweetheart, Tasha in 2001 and now have two wonderful children.  Gracie is 12 and Gabrial is 11.

I graduated from Marmaduke School District in 1999, and then graduated from Arkansas State University with a BSE in English in 2003.  I completed my Master’s in Special Education in 2007.

I have been teaching Special Education since 2004 and working in my current location at Marmaduke High School for the past 7 years.

I accepted the position of children’s pastor at Lafe Baptist Church in October of 2015.

My favorite bible verse is Matthew 5:14-15.

Matthew 5:14-15 (KJV)

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

My hobbies include hunting, fishing, coaching, and watching sports.

My desire as Children’s Pastor at LBC is to guide young hearts towards a lasting and pure relationship with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

If you have children and are looking for a church that teaches and is lead by God's word, it is here at LBC. I would appreciate the opportunity to work with your children and help in teaching them about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
